Making a Simple Chair

As I want the focus to be more on my teddy bear model and the animation in the final render, I decided to make a very simple chair.

The chair was made using the cube as a base for the seat, the back of the seat, and each of the legs. For the back of the seat I used the multi-cut tool to create face for the cut-out squares. To cut them out I selected each of the faces, back and front, and extruded them inside the chair, then deleted those same faces. I extruded them first so that I would be able to cover the holes that would have been left behind otherwise.
As for the legs I decided to add some detail to the feet, this was done by selecting the bottom faces of the legs and extruding them down and then out.
For the textures, I coloured both the seat and legs inside of Maya but used different materials for the seat and legs.
For the seat I used the lambert material, and for the legs I used phong, to give them a shiny metallic look and accompanied by the silver colour of the legs I believe that this comes across well. For the seat I chose to use a navy-blue colour, because it goes well with the brown colour of my teddy bear model and it happens to be my favourite colour as well.
As a controller for the chair, I kept this simple as well, I made one control curve that allows me to move around the whole chair. If I had more time and had needed it for the animation I have planned, I would have also added controllers to allow the chair to pivot on its legs, which would allow for some more dynamic movement.
As I now have the two models I need to start animating, I will start doing that in the next part.
