Building a Room and adding Lighting

To build the room around my animation I used NURBS planes. I did this for the four walls and the floor.

For the walls, I simply assigned them with the lambert material and tried to mimic the traditional magnolia colour that is in most houses.
As for the floor, I made a little bit more effort and found a free stock image online that had a decent portion of carpet, with some apples in the corner, from a straight down angle. I took this picture into Adobe Photoshop and edited it so that the apples weren’t visible and only the carpet could be seen. I made this into a larger texture by duplicating it and piecing it together. I did edit the colour very slightly just to cool down the two tone look of the carpet I had.
My decision to keep this room simple, wasn’t out of laziness, but rather out of a want to not distract from the animation and the main model – the teddy bear. I felt that having too much going on in the background would only take away from the overall product.

For the lighting of this room I used three directional lights, one above the chair pointing to it, one in front of the chair pointing up towards it, and the other is points towards the backrest of the chair from the front. These lights in combination give the illusion of the room being lighted from a single ceiling light – the illusion I was trying to create.
With the room complete I can now focus on animating a camera through the scene which is what I plan to focus on next.
